This movie was an endurance trial, but..
After I let the awkward wash off a little bit, I was able to see what the point of it all was.
Something that's become kind of mundane and obnoxious is casual irony. This whole hipster generation is rooted in an attempt at irony- and nearly every comedy in film or tv seems to be ultra conscious of itself. Everything is trying to not be sappy or unintentionally funny. And it's made a lot of young folks into thoughtless cynics.
Almost as refreshing as seeing the credits roll for The Comedy was seeing a film that acknowledges how rampant and annoying 'sardonic humor' has become.
