Just saw the movie, didn't find it funny, but didn't really find it disturbing either. It was interesting, though. Makes me wonder how many people are out there like that...
Anyway, what's up with all the toothbrushing? is this a trademark of the hipster?
From dream to dream....we have always been, like an ever flowing stream....
Do you not brush your teeth regularly? He has to brush his teeth in kind of odd places because he doesn't have running water on the boat, which is something they make a point of showing.
Hes too lazy and neglectful to even refill the clean water on his boat so he can maintain basic hygene. Can be assumed hes always putting it off (refilling the water) to tomorrow, just like he did maturity, which it is now too late for.
This movie is totally disturbing. A group of 30-something males, too wealthy to be concerned with responsibility to anything other than their own amusement (stickball, drinking, mocking everything, disrespecting everybody) and provoking everyone they come in contact with. Too lazy and irresponsible to even maintain the simplest things (like potable water) on the simplest of living quarters (a boat).
btw, I loved this movie. The actors' performances, the awkwardness, the neediness, the failed attempts to amuse each other (and the successful attempts and then subsequent critiques and crapping on). Yikes! What a frightening but fascinating group of people to observe.
My theory on the teeth brushing is that Swanson is a big time alcoholic. Not only does he probably want to cover up the constant smell of booze on his breath, but if you've ever woken up after a night of way too much drinking you have to brush your teeth several times to get that disgusting taste/feeling out of your mouth. Not sure if that's what the film makers intended, but that's how I saw it.
