Scene with Heidecker and black men

I thought that was hilarious and such a funny and true portrayal of how a lot of white men are so awkward and don't know how to interact with black men.

reply

This guy sees everybody as a serf meant to entertain him. The black men are just a small sample of that.

^ welp. Someone sounds mad here.

anyways I thought it was funny to, it did remind me of some scenarios ive been in where awkward white guys are so clueless and talking to black people, ive seen it happen and its funny (but not as sinister as it was with him, because we knew more about his character lol). and not saying that all white guys are awkward around blacks (just like not all blacks find it hard to separate others, ahem.) Just some weirdo guys do. I totally agree with OP.

"Everyone has an opinion....and then you die."

reply

OP is an idiot, and I'm just calling it as I see it. Minority guys are all wrapped up in swagger - which at it's root is insecurity, and they don't know how to behave around educated people period, they just don't. Educated people, white or black know how to communicate with one another. White guys also realize that black guys are insecure with being the minority in most situations, so they tread lightly. So black guys are the strange fruit who have trouble integrating much of the time.

reply

why you so mad tho?

Wait... "strange fruit"?

oic. Either a very odd, subdued troll (in which case, bravo sir/madame! what a subtle tell), or you're incredibly ignorant and have a LOT of hostility toward black men, and perhaps just made a Freudian misstep informing anyone who reads this and has the most marginal knowledge of Jazz... that you think about lynching them.

I really hope you're an odd troll.

reply

I think you're reading anger where it doesn't exist, because anger is a very natural and regular emotion in yourself. It's the first thing you assume in another, when you read something you don't like. Call my words ignorant if you want to, but there is much truth in them, if you're really honest about it. There is no trolling coming from me. I'm not sure where you got the idea of lynching, do you have a slave grudge?

" Cristal, Beluga, Wolfgang Puck... It's a f#@k house."

reply

I agree with some of the points you are making, but Strange Fruit is not a wise phrase to choose when describing black people. Type in "Strange Fruit Billie Holiday" in YouTube to understand why you DO sound ignorant here. Using that phrase without understanding what it means or where it comes from is foolishness.

Hint - Strange Fruit = Dead Lynched Black People hanging from Trees.
Yup, that's what THAT means.
You should listen to the song anyway, great song - also a part of American History people should be aware of if they wish to openly talk about race.

Also, you're generalizing a lot here. I've met many black guys who weren't college educated who can offer legitimate and honest dialog without all that swagger and tough-guy mentality.

The fact of the matter is that those guys exist, just as much as the black dudes with the swagger exist, just as much as guys like Heidecker's character exists, just as much as the OP who thinks most white guys are clueless exists, just as much as post-racial white dudes who are socially competent exists, just as much as ignorant white dudes like yourself exists.

reply

From my observation, black people do seem to self segregate socially and psychologically. I think this is a result of political programming. I couldnt care less about race. We're all pink inside.

reply

It's really easy to disregard being called an idiot outright, when it is followed by a laundry list of additional, ignorant over-generalizations. Anyone, educated or not, of any ethnic background knows how wrong you are. Racism is not as much the cause as it is ignorance, which is the case with many white people. I guess that's progress...

*at its root* You should be able to accept the correction, since we understand each other as two educated people.

reply

On the contrary, you are being corrected. Any one *honest* and educated sees the truth of the matter, not only the politically correct version of it. You want to talk generalizations, start with your racist generalization of how white men act around awkward black men - who hide their insecurity behind swag and bravado. "we ain't gotz no intellect, but at lees we gotz swag." You're feelings stem from an unfounded and egotistical idea that black men are secure, and have their act together, and white men somehow do not in the presence of them. Which is ridiculous when you consider the rather dysfunctional history of the black race. Hey, I'm just being honest. And I'm sure you are used to being called an idiot. You can't put it out and not get it back, that wouldn't be equality now would it?

you are a angry racist who came to this thread to spread angry racism. try to rationalize it all you want. I am a black person i have never said a sentence like the one you said above. i have no hate for any race... i understand that there are thugs and flat out a**h0les of every race , i don't deny it but acting as if every person of that race is the epitome of a stereotype is ridiculous.

The op pointed out that some white guys act weird and awkward around black guys.which some do (not all but some) i have witnessed it and it looked just like the scene in the movie. you came to start BulllSh!*.

you are angry and i feel sorry for you.

humanity as a whole (which includes different races FYI) should try and work together rather then separate themselves. people like you are one of the problems with the world today.

reply

You're incorrect in assuming I am angry or racist. And I didn't comment to start anything. I did take issue with the op's comment about white guys though - regardless of how the character in the movie acted. It seemed too much like a sweeping racial generality to me. You know, the kind that come from blacks all the time, but nobody says anything about it. But if it comes from a white, they'd call you an "angry racist", like I've been called here?

There are two sides to the coin, and a reaction to every action, I'm just pointing that out. And people like me are not one of the problems in the world today. That distinction belongs to certain people who have a problem integrating into a society that has practically rolled out the red carpet for them.

Carry on with your thread as planned guys, it's not my intention to derail the train of conversation.

Don't know why my comment got deleted. I'm going to drag this up again on principle.

If something seems like a sweeping racial generality to you, then maybe next time you should scan what you are angrily reacting to for the phrase, "a lot of." A lot of white guys act this way. I don't think it's fair to say white guys act this way in general.

You reacted in kind to a false perception and called me an idiot and brought up racial stereotypes. YOU did it.

Dont put a new spin on an old post. You pointed out comedians...this regular joe wasn't trying to be funny or lighthearted or even entertaining. he was mocking out of ignorance and from what it seemed anger. Anger being key here. There is a difference.

Regular joes can't be comedians? Sure they can. You don't have to get on stage to be a comedian. Hell, you don't have to be funny to be a comedian ("Everyone's a comedian")
And since anyone can be a comedian, how about his question: Comedians can't be angry?
I'm pretty sure a lot of comedians are angry. I'd be willing to bet that a greater percentage are. So no, there really isn't much of a difference.

reply

Nah. For this specific situation....this guys post had no comedic element. You know this.

And my point must have gone right over your head. How convenient.

reply

Lol. I am sticking to what I initially said and pointing out an obvious. Yes your comment must have gone over my head because I STILL don't agree with you.Classic.

Breakdown:

I never said anything about comedians couldn't be angry (you brought this up). I stated this guy is not a comedian. His post was without comedic tone and if you read back (his post) you would see that. Unless you are just trying to serve your own point for the sake of saving face.

that's alright. Stay proud. Never back down brother. 😡

Swanson/Heidecker was in a black bar as a goof, to eff with them. "Can I have a glass?" knowing full well that this crummy black bar only had plastic cups which were right in front of him. Finding a way 'into' the owner/bartender, by claiming to be able to bring his white friends ("an upscale crowd, spend a lot of money in here"). And then effing with the black men who were occupied with their regular conversation. It was an ugly scene, a self-indulgent narcissist bringing absolutely nothing to the environment around him but only taking.

reply

It was an excellent portrayal of clueless racism. This character would probably be shocked to be called out on it... I'm sure he doesn't think he's a racist, at all. He'd think he was just pushing buttons. But he totally is mad racist.

Best scene in the whole stupid movie, really. But I thought it was missing one thing - they should've kicked his ass. I liked that the bar regulars were portrayed as being unfazed by his cluelessness, even amused, but I still wanted him to get the smackdown he was asking for.
