Cheesy like Feta, but ultimately a sappy heart warmer
Ok, it's so funny because ethnic families are so quirky... Not very original, and a little overplayed in this trilogy by now. All the "Crazy Greek Aunties" tropes are kind of tiresome by now.
However, after the first third of the movie lays it on thick with that stuff, this movie turns for the better. A lot of it is predictable, to be honest, but it then strikes a sincere tone and pulls at heart strings.
I come from a very similar culture, literally from the next door neighbor, so I get it. Looking for roots in the old country after losing your father - this also struck close to me, so maybe that is why I fell for this sappy movie.
In the end, it was a loving and fun movie, even if not as impactful as the original in the series.
Best moment for me:
Alexandra (Scary old Greek woman) tells Ian (John Corbett) to pick the chicken he wants for dinner. Ian says "oh no thank you, I'm a vegetarian". She says:... "No"
