Wow, I watched this movie 20 mins ago, I thought "I wonder if others liked it like I did...?" That is a really nice homage to Aliens, Predator and yes a bit Final Fantasy plus lots of other movies and games I have enjoyed playing for 20+ years. However, instead I see this stupidity. Remember, if you lodge civil action in the US you will be subject to disclosure rules that will probably tell you that FF-TSW was inspired by other books and TV (there are star trek episodes that are very similar from the 60s), but as Harlen Ellison discovered quite regularly courts tend to laugh at you if you claim your spectral clouds copyright has been infringed...
shareYeah, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is similar to Aliens in some aspects. Plus, there's an episode of Star Trek The Original Series which was about an alien organism which looks like a could and drains people's blood (or something like that) when it comes in contact with them. It's not that different from ghost like things which kill you by touching you. I'm assuming that's the episode you referenced.
