best looking tv movie ever?

Is Netflix going ito keep producing movies like this in the future? This made HBO original movies look cheap in comparison. I know that they have been producing and distributng independent movies lately but this looked like a serious Hollywood blockbuster. Actually the visuals were way better here than in the new Ghostbusters movie.

Apparently it was supposed to be released in theatres and had a significant budget, but there were some production problems and Netflix picked it up. So we probably shouldn't consider this the new norm.

And this is where I give the movie high praise. It did look nice.

TBH, this was supposed to be released as a summer blockbuster kind of movie by Universal and technically they produced it and Netflix just picked it up like a scrap kind of a thing. Now that I say this I really don't get how these things work because if Universal spent a lot of money on this and just left it, im assuming Netflix pay them a lot of that money back maybe. Does anyone know?

Well, the bulk of the production capital was put up by Legendary Pictures with Universal chipping in to obtain US distribution rights. Netflix got it on the cheap since Universal from all appearances wanted to dump the picture. If I had to guess, Netflix probably paid somewhere around $4-5 million (which is an awesome deal) to acquire distribution in the US. It's still a loss for Universal but not as much if they had to foot the marketing and advertising bill to get a movie which they had no confidence in into theaters. Now, that's only US. Legendary, which has international rights, I'd imagine they're shopping the film around to multiple distributors in multiple countries to recoup their money.

Right, got it. Thanks for the reply mate! ?

OK it's a shame other posters have explained that it landed on Netflix by accident, however I do agree that this indeed look very, very nice, visually an outstanding movie. Very high production values.
