Total Ripoff of 'The Darkest Hour'

They couldn't have done anything else to convince me this is a total ripoff of the low budget film "The Darkest Hour" (2011) with Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Joel Kinnamon & Max Minghella (son of outstanding director Anthony Minghella). The Darkest hour was even co-written by Jon Spaihts, who I had never heard of until the next year when he co-wrote "Prometheus" (2012) Ridley Scott's long awaited stunning prequel to his film "Alien" (1979). This film is even set in Russia, the same as "The Darkest Hour"; which eas actually filmed there.
As low budget as the film
it copies totally is, "Spectral" really manages
to be a predictable s.o.s.
of a film. An over-the-hill Bruce Greenwood has
(at most) about 5 minutes
of screentime, & he (along with Emily Mortimer) are
the best known actors in "Spectral". N%tfl&x really wasted their money on this one. The only actor I like
is Louis Ozawa ChangChien, who was the Yakuza killer in "Predators", & also had
a good role in "The Bourne
Legacy" (2012). What a joke.

Exepct that Darkest Hour was pretty crap and holds 4,9/10 on IMDB - rightfully so. And Spaiths is yet to redeem himself from writing Prometheus.

I dont pay attention to the numbers imdb gives. However, I do agree with you completely about being crap; both are lacking. I still think the storyline was ripped off. As far as Spaihts is concerned, redeemed from what? He did a very good job on a film that is light years better than either one of these films. Think about the notch in his belt from writing that. I think anyone Ridley Scott entrusted to write for him in his first return to a legendary film like "Alien" deserves due props. I have the 4 disc set of "Prometheus". In it there are hours of what it took to make that film; many of which were re-used when he made "The Martian".
