My shorts, good enough for V/H/S?

Actually I just want to hear your opinions on these shorts I made over the winter break, and since this movie is a compilation of shorts, it'd be the best place to do so, I think. So here they are. There are two. Each of them is approximately 6 minutes. Both are horror. Thank you so much in advance. You can throw in some comments on the video as well.

1. Odd: http://youtu.be/IW6lxhOALqA
2. The Next Door Neighbor: http://youtu.be/HT9N29BjstI

The Next Door Neighbor was pretty good! I haven't seen Odd yet, but I'll let you know my thoughts later.

Thank you. Tell me when you've done, will you?

reply

Odd was good too. It reminded me of The Grudge.

Which one do you like better?

reply

Personally, I liked Next Door Neighbor more because it was slower and didn't have as many jump scares as Odd.

I only watched the neighbor and it's been done before. He's calling from inside your house!

They were entertaining and pretty good for a first (I'm guessing) foray into horror film. Yes, the subject matter has been done before, but that is not exactly uncommon in the horror genre in my experience. Good to start building your resume if you are serious about film. Get as much experience as you can... you never know where it can lead really. I preferred "Next Door Neighbor" since I prefer "plausible/realistic" horror stuff over the supernatural a lot of the time. Both were of a similar quality though in my opinion.

The only thing I'd say in a negative context is that the shorts are not really appropriate for "V/H/S" because there is no real "vantage camera" in either (ie: a webcam, cell phone video, spy camera like the glasses in "Amateur Night", classic camcorder, etc.). It's not a big deal, but if you want to make a real "V/H/S" short, this is something you probably need to take into account. Well done though!
