I actually thought Tammy was mentally disabled

The way it was acted and presented at the start I actually thought Tammy was meant to be mentally disabled and that her 'husband' was actually her brother or something and she was just crashing at his and his actual wife's house.

I kept waiting for the reveal that her family were all humouring her and she was actually having real mental issues. I was expecting the film to turn out to be one of those comedy that is actually about real dramatic issues deals – but, no. We were actually meant to empathise with her as the 'hero' of the piece.

Car crash of a movie, so, so bad on many levels.

Wow. Mental issues much?

reply

Wow! I didn't get that at all.

reply

I thought she was mentally handicapped, too. Actually, I still believe she is. However, I never thought her husband was her brother.

reply

Yeah, I never thought her husband was her brother. But I could see her being mentally handicapped. Look at some of the things she did - she had terrible judgment.

reply

I didn't think Tammy had any mental issues.

She was just all over the place and not making any effort in her life. We are led to believe she will get hold of herself, in the end.

I didn't think she was mentally disabled---she definitely came off as someone who had almost no self-esteem, and had lost any motivation to anything with her life. If anything, she was probably depressed, but did a good job of hiding it---she clearly had a lot of issues, though. Tammy did come off as a very immature and pathetic woman who had yet to grow up, and take responsibility for her own actions for anything. She even admitted at one point in the film that she's nothing but a *beep* herself, and the point of the film is how she comes to terms with that and finally does something about it. It was also nice to see a movie that shows some strong and interesting human beings who weren't spending their time trying to get a man, and that looked like real women who have aged naturally with wrinkles instead of Hollywood types with fake faces jacked up from too much plastic surgery and breast implants. Now that was refreshing.

She did look a little Downsy.

I work with children with mental disabilities and all of you clearly have no experience with mentally disabled people. There is a difference from a lack of intelligence and being mentally disabled. She had issues with maturity, impusiveness, and wasnt the smartest person but to compare her to someone with down syndrome is OUTRAGEOUS. She is NOTHING like someone with down syndrome, someone with down syndrome would be so happy to be able to function as well as her. Impulsiveness and lack of intelligence dont really qualify as trully mentally disabled so NO she is not mentally disabled. If you seriously believe she does then I suggest you go spend some time with someone who is trully mentally disabled. I understand you think she is stupid, but dont compare stupidity to mental disabilities because they are two completely different things!

She didn't have mental issues, she was just an idiot.
