They had guts with the ending

When I say that, I mean they showed guts by killing Anna off. In the original, she gets away. I disliked the Anna in the remake a lot more. Anna was leading Frank on and she was seeing some douche. In the original she seemed to really like him and had no boyfriend. I remember Aja saying behind the scenes that they wanted the audience to want Anna to "save him." In the original, he acts perfectly normal around Anna and is even more charming than Frank in the remake. Frank in the remake is anything but charming. There was something I always found so likable about Joe Spinell. In the remake there is no hint Anna is ever going to, as Aja puts, "save him." I wish they would've got a different actress to play Anna in the original though. She was supposed to be an Italian photographer. In the original, her last name was even D'Antoni. She was played by a British actress. In the remake I guess they decided to make her French.

reply

She wasn't leading him on. She thought he was gay.

reply

No she didn't. She asked him what his "girlfriend" thought of his work. She was even under the impression he was living with a girl.

reply

I must've missed that part. I got the feeling she thought that since all her friends and associates were gay ( aside from her douchebag boyfriend ) that she may have got the impression that he was. Grown man always alone except for his creepy life sized dolls ( ie Mannequins ) might spark a couple of questions.

reply

That's true, Mike Paul, but I think she asks him TWICE about a girlfriend.

Four 'dates' and THEN she mentions a boyfriend?

I gotta say, I resorted to immediate macho *beep* and just went 'Bitch' when she suddenly mentioned a guy.

LOL!!!

I love how the camera (Elijah) immediately starts to pull back from her after that......

reply

Yeah, well that's why she would have gone out with the 'macho' and 'friendzoned' the 'nice weirdo'. Women like that make me cringe...

I do understand why Frank got friendzoned though. He wasn't giving off vibes that he was romantically interested in her, so she probably had no idea that he liked her in that way. Besides, what if he wasn't her type? Would you date/bang any woman out there if she was 'nice'?

reply

She knew he liked her. When they were watching the movie he stared at her until she smirked and said she couldn't concentrate on the movie. There was definitely a vibe between them. She just killed it when her boyfriend called.

I assume she has issues herself, hence the "Mr Ego himself" boyfriend. She couldn't leave him for Frank, she was a coward. It is obvious that they like each other, but each of them has issues, therefore no one makes the first move. Until, well, Frank ruins it in the end.

reply

So in your universe, psycho murderer = "nice weirdo" and befriending = friendzoning

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"--Pres. Merkin Muffley

reply

Yeah, that was NOT cool for her to not mention the boyfriend. Just bringing it up casually in case the dude IS interested would be a nice courtesy.

reply

Yeah, it wasn't right. You don't spend how much time with a guy, ask if he has a girlfriend, go out with him, and then all of a sudden mention you have a boyfriend. And her boyfriend was a dick. I hate how some girls are into the whole bad boy thing.

reply

TBF, at the end when he’s giving her a massage she basically looks as if she “wants it”, so to speak. He's pulling down her cardigan, and she's not complaining. Then he ruins it. So she clearly did like him in “that way".

It's nice for this type of film to follow its dark premise right through to the ending for a change; it'd have felt like a cop-out if Anna hadn't died. It was a good ending, but I feel it would've been stronger if they'd closed on the women tearing Frank's face off, rather than the comparatively mundane and gratuitous shot of the SWAT team discovering him.
