High Tension

I came across High Tension one night on TV. I noticed that Alexandre Aja worked on the movie so I kept it on to see what it was. I hated it. I thought it was terrible. When I looked it up on IMDB, I was shocked to see what a high rating it had. It was rated higher than Maniac. In my opinion, it is no better than Maniac. Actually, I think Maniac is better than High Tension in every way. Maniac is the better made film, more terrifying, more interesting, used a clever POV, and overall just the better movie. People that hated Maniac for the reasons I've seen in negative reviews, should not be rating High Tension higher and I hope they didn't. The worst part about High Tension for me was the twist ending. I thought it was ridiculous and it did nothing for the movie. Yes, I know Maniac is a remake, but they did a very good job. I don't think High Tension is Aja's best work at all. I know he didn't direct Maniac, but he did write and produce it. Yes, they had an original idea and movie to work with, but they were able to make the Maniac remake interesting and new in their own right. To me, there is nothing interesting or original about High Tension. The twist ending was cliché and a little off-putting. I didn't care for the violence in High Tension either. Yes, Maniac was violent, but I felt it had a purpose. We were in the mind of a homicidal maniac and there was no turning away when you're seeing it through his eyes.

High tension is a fantastic film through and through. As is maniac. Both are superb.

Haute Tension is great extreme horror, with very good acting. I watched it when it came out and it made me an Aja fan.
Films like HT are what we need instead of most of the mellow stuff studios keep releasing.

This remake is more like a tribute to good old extreme horror. Wood is excellent as the killer but too pretty IMHO, so the creepiness factor is less effective than with Spinell's superb character. The original is just perfect!

yeah, if you like horror movies with GIGANTIC ridiculous plot holes...

Maybe most of what you call plot holes are Marie's insane pov fuelled by her hallucinations, and red herrings to keep the suspense high.
