Maniac vs Wolf Creek

I can't believe Wolf Creek has a higher rating than this. This movie was so much better. There was one scene of torture in Maniac. I disagreed with it, I thought it was unnecessary and wrong. In the original, Frank never scalped anyone alive. It was one part in the remake, it was short (thank God) and at least it didn't make up the whole movie. Don't get me wrong, this movie was brutal. It was violent. But it wasn't a typical Slasher with the same Slasher movie clichés with torture porn. It didn't have scenes like the "head on a stick" scene in Wolf Creek. That was nauseating, disgusting, and sick. And Wolf Creek had to use that same old "inspired by true events" BS to sell the movie. They have been using that gimmick since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original). When I was in theaters, I saw the trailer to the remake and when the words "inspired by a true story" came up on the screen, I heard someone whisper behind me to their friend, "It really happened?" When are they going to stop using that same trick over and over? Enough already.

Maniac was a remake, but it had originality. It had the POV and it got you in the killer's head. All Wolf Creek did was show some sick sociopathic psychopathic *beep* that liked to torture and hack up women. And in the end he gets away with it. Only for there to be another dumb sick movie made years later.

I'm sorry, all I read was, ?Blah blah blah ouch my tender sensibilities...blah blah 'torture porn' blah blah disgusting & unnecessary, mrehhhh.? Because, I mean, aside from what similarities between Maniac and Wolf Creek you perceive might otherwise like to believe there are, and more specifically are of any relevance whatsoever, the comparison at its core is a pretty damn arbitrary one and one that seemingly stems more from some personal beef I wouldn't doubt that you've got with the latter of the two because of this disdain for what it is that you deem to be 'torture porn' exactly and the fact that because of that, as well as the fact that it's 'rated higher' - which is something that in and of itself is so inconsequential and subjective, the fact that it's getting you all up in arms is quite hilarious to be sure...

So for that reason, I'm actually quite glad Wolf Creek is 'rated higher' since it comes at the expense of your sanity -- because you're clearly a nutjob.

Torture porn 4 life.

I like maniac alot but every time I try to rewatch it I get bored and turn it off, I can watch wolf creek several times and it still is entertaining. Wolf Creek is a very well done movie for what it is and the fact it was on a relatively low budget makes it that much more impressive. The director really captures the isolation and shows how desolate Id imagine the outback to be and not to mention John Jarrett turns in an awesome performance.

I love that scene around the fire when he tows them back to his camp when the one guy says something like "you must love the freedom, running around in the bush saying stuff like thats not a knife, this is a knife" and Mick looks at him slack jawed with that stare like hes looking right through him and its so uncomfortable and you know this guy isn't to be messed with. He's completely likable at first even though you know he's gonna be the bad guy when they first meet him and he's cracking jokes and then turns scary as hell. Theres a couple bone headed moments in the movie I don't like but overall I think its one of the best in its genre, its genuinely unsettling and I dont see how an almost off screen stabbing where he says "head on a stick" is somehow more disturbing than scalping someone alive or plunging a meat clever into a guys face or the plenty of other parts in Maniac.
