[Spoiler] Possibility regarding the DNA tests

If Tui's baby belonged to Al or one of the other members of his ring, and if Al was ordering a DNA test for Johnno as well (which seems strange to begin with), do you think he could have just swapped the results?

Johnno's DNA test would show him to be Matt's child, and the baby's would show him to be someone else's. In that case, the investigation into who raped Tui would still be open. But if Al just switched the samples, that would close the case on Tui's baby (Matt's the father) and Johnno would just be left with unanswered questions. He wouldn't have the resources to do an investigation into his "real" father's identity, so the matter would be dropped.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion. Al and Matt were obviously in cahoots. That was established in the first episode. I found it pretty odd Al would give Johnno DNA test results when he didn't even ask it. Johnno living outside the compound seemed to indicate to me anyway there'd been some kind of falling out between him and Matt. Al giving him the DNA test results was probably meant to explain Matt yelling "You're no son of mine!" in episode 6.

And yeah, I also agree Matt being Noah's father (Tui's baby) would be a little too convenient given the buildup and focus was more on just finding Tui alive in the previous 6 and a half episodes. Me personally, I think Jamie was the father of Tui's baby. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gone out of his way to bring her food knowing everyone in town and their mother was looking for her. If he didn't love her, he definitely wouldn't have died for her in episode 6.

When they were all at Paradise after Jamie's death, Jamie's mother told Robin that Jamie wasn't the father. She said he was gay. I think Jamie just loved Tui as a friend, that's why he was helping her.

Very good point- people seem to be forgetting about that line " he wasn't' attracted to girls. He was gay...".
First I thought she meant Matt (maybe he raped her too)., because he could not get it up, with a woman (without forewarning).

Jamie was just terribly lost. I felt equally sorry for him and his mother, when he continued to hurt himself.
But Al somehow knew about all that stuff that must have gone down before, treating him like he did during that terrible investigation, knowing how to pull all his triggers. Making him cook a pot of tea, really? One loose end, that won't be tied up.

So yes, I absolutely agree- Jamie was just her friend, relating to her because they both were absolutely lost.

Have you considered the possibility that Jamie helped Tui out because he felt guilty for her being in her situation because he was helping Al with the sex ring? Remember, Jamie was found with rohypnol at one point, which could indicate a possible connection with the sex ring.

Jamie didn't die on purpose either, he slipped and fell when he was being chased. I don't believe one bit that he was the father.

Tui said she had no idead how the baby got in her. Most likely because she was drugged. Matt was crazy , but I don't think he raped his daughter.

reply

I don't think Matt raped his daughter either. I think he knew Al's secrets and Al knew his, so they covered for one another. But I don't think Matt knew that Al had raped Tui, although why did he go after the baby? It seemed like he was taking the baby to protect Al and clean up Al's mess. I feel the doctor at the end was in cahoots and he switched the DNA results. I'm still a bit confused as to why Matt would try to protect Al though. I'm going to start another thread for some answers.

I thought the DNA test was for Robin, not Johnno.

I think if they wanted you to think the tests were switched, they would have alluded to that.

I think Al was the father because Jamie mentioned that the father was "the evil one" "The one that sucked out all their souls" that meant it was Al. He was in charge of that perverted pedophile ring. I thought this show was the True Detective of BBC. Loved it.

I think IRL everything that Al touched would be suspect and therefore reopened. There was a very brief scene of Al crawling into the house so he wasn't DRT from the gunshot wound. I guess they left a lot of things open for a possible second series. Matt was dead but it seemed odd that they left Al's fate open as there is no way he could ever be involved in the series again.
