Just watched this on Vimeo too and LOVED it! I am usually more of a girl who likes boy type movies/shows like Avengers, Goodfellas, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones etc..in other words, not much into Romance movies but this was REALLY REALLY great!!! Thought it would be just sort of a silly movie (okay I did literally laugh out loud at the slapping scene...LOL!) but this movie was trully a gem from beginning to end! Loved the two leads! Definitely worth the rental! Way to go Josh Whedon!!! Very impressed with the directing!

I'm a Buffy, Firefly, Avengers, Cabin in the Woods fan. Although the premise for this film drew me in, it really didn't make any sense story-wise.

It wasn't that it was a fairytale, it wasn't really surreal, but the plot never added up.

Dude gets hit for losing to someone in pool? What?! That guy woulda been happy to win money.

Rebecca lies to everyone she knows about what's going on and just lets them think she's crazy, and they are villains because of it?! Not quite fair.

Both characters throw their whole lives away at the end to jump on a boxcar, with no future plans? She broke out of a mental institution and he's a wanted felon all because he wanted to run non-stop across the country to see her. There was no rush. Why would Dylan not just work with his parole officer to go see her? Giddens said there was nothing that would surprise him even. They never tell anyone about what's going on, when its something they could easily prove.

Dylan could have taken a cab to get her at the end but instead tries to rent a car without a license (why?) and then steals one!!! Why?!?!

Why didn't they buy bluetooth headsets so they had an excuse to talk?!?

It had issues, some of which you said, but nothing really that broke my suspension of disbelief. Some dude at the bar could have any number of issues going on and I don't mind that he didn't behave rationally. In the moment I just assumed he'd lost the next game and blamed the protagonist.

But, yeah, the ending was sort of contrived or rushed. I think that the stakes weren't communicated well -- his actions would make a lot more sense if she had no hope of exiting the institution, or at least not with her soul intact somehow. That her husband was being vindictive and punishing her for what he'd been told took a little too much inference, as well. Highlighting that might have helped ease the previous issue.

Her husband was definitely a villain from the get-go, though. I hated him from the very first party scene, for substantive reasons. And her "friend" was pretty obviously somebody who liked spreading gossip and seeing relationships destroyed. I think that was made maybe too abundantly clear in the short amount of time she was a significant scene presence.

I don't mind that they don't tell anybody. Yes, they could prove it if they were able to arrange all the parties to be in contact, but getting to that point would be a nightmare of uncertainties, and not wanting to do it -- especially when you've grown up with this sense of sharing your viewpoint with some unseen presence -- makes emotional sense to me.

I totally wondered that about the car rental scene too. Maybe he had credit cards or something, but even then he'd just be a bad criminal for using them so he could be tracked. It shouldn't have even made the script.

I didn't worry about the bluetooth headsets really, although I should have since her car was a 2010. I saw his flip phone and no other notable gadgets, so I think it just felt like early 2000s to me.

There were a lot of good parts but something felt really cheesy about the whole thing.

i just finished watching it. and LOVE it as well. as someone who's been dealing with ptsd i was delighted to see a supernatural take on mental disorders. and the lead actors were awesome. i'd seen zoey in a similar weird movie in which her character came to life from a script and the writer fell in love with her but had substantial power as he could change her through his writing. this story goes so well with it.
I loved how they slowly got to know each other. and slowly fell in love. a little gem.

I was shocked at how much I loved this movie, and how emotionally engaged I felt during the final twists and turns. Now admittedly, I'm a guy so even as an old man, I don't have a long list of favorite romantic movies. But I can only think of one other romance that has ever affected me as much as this film ("They Live By Night" from 1948).

I loved how the premise of this story was presented simply and without a lot of visual effects or tortuous explanations of why this was happening. Most writers and directors don't seem to trust their actors or audiences with a story like this, and waste way too much of the running time trying to justify the premise. They should do what was done in this movie - get the right actors who will play their parts with conviction, and then give them enough screen time to make the audience believe and become invested in the story.

I thought Zoe Kazan in particular was absolutely terrific.
