He Should've Just Taken A Cab

Why did this movie need a car chase?

AKA this movie just gets silly at the end.

SPOILERS: It's really starting to bug me into such a tired "boy saves girl" trope.

Her husband having her committed seemed like such Lifetime movie/soap opera moment.

It might have been "boring" but I think a truer ending would have been them choosing to leave behind the bad people in their life via self-awareness, and an agreed upon meeting.

I agree, the melodrama ending didn't suit the rest of the film... but she wouldn't have left her husband, and he needed a substantial reason to jump parole. Also, did he not take a taxi because he didn't actually know where he was going, he could have got in one and asked to be taken to the nearest mental hospital... and maybe he didn't have any money left after the plane ticket.

reply

He sold his truck, I hope he had money leftover.

reply

If it was his intent to spring her out of the mental hospital quickly, hospital staff (or her husband, or both) would most likely stop them if he took a taxi.

But that wasn't the plan. And as to what actually happened, taking a cab was more than appropriate and much better than having police chase after you for stealing a car.

reply

I have to agree. Not only are you skipping parole there are cameras everywhere at the airport. They know who you are... You just got off a plane...not to mention how did he get on a plane without his drivers license?

reply

I can't believe I'm having to write this. Of course he had his drivers license, but using that license to then rent the car would have given the authorities an ID on his vehicle type and plates and that is even if the rental company hadn't already been notified to contact authorities immediately if the bearer of that license turned up.
