A Message From Charity
Twilight Zone 1985
Joss, don't say you weren't inspired by it, it is just too similar. I don't mind, it's my favourite TZ episode, and I loved it being taken up in this film!!!

If you mean similar in that a couple of people could communicate with one another telepathically, then you may as well say it was inspired by The Tomorrow People (1973). Beyond that, there isn't really too much similarity. In the TZ episode, they became linked (in their teen years) from a rare illness. In this movie, they were always linked, just never explained how. In the TZ episode, they were separated by roughly 400 years, but may have been in the same general vicinity (location wise). In the movie, they are real time with each other, just a different location. While the overall concept isn't new, the way it was handled doesn't make me think it was due to the TZ episode. Yes, it slightly reminded me of it, in the sense of a male/female being able to communicate with one another like that. But that's about it.
For the record, that TZ episode is one of my favorites too. Another is Her Pilgrim Soul/I of Newton (1985) which I think demonstrates what TZ is really about.

Happy to be of amusing service!
Though, as with all things subjective, what matters to whom for what reasons and what doesn't is up to each subject to subjectively conceive and assess :-).
And I actually like the fact that it is a similar concept and that I was reminded of my old TZ favourite.
And it would matter to me - in a good way - if Joss had been inspired by it.
But here I go, giving an overlong and much too earnest answer to such a clever one-lined remark. I may just remonick myself to NeverMind.
