IMDB seems to have release dates posted for the US and UK. Anyone know if they're valid? I heard no news of US or UK distribution. Great news if so...but I guess a lot of us have a another year of waiting to do. And here I was hoping to have the Blu Ray by summer.
The UK date is not valid. It does have a UK distributor, and they tell me it will be released this year, but the date is not yet set. AFAIK it doesn't yet have a US distributor so that date is most likely invalid too.
The Danish release date currently set at March 26 (2015), bumped up from April 16, appears legit, so I'd be quite surprised (going by HarryPowell's info on the UK having a distrib) if a UK date wouldn't land close by. And I agree, the US date seems questionable as well given the reason stated.
If it is true (the only way it would be true, would be that distributors want to formalize their right acquisition later, we will see in some weeks), the release in other territories will be moved to similar dates than the ones chosen for the US, as this has been the scheme The Tree of Life and To the Wonder, with the absence of US distributor blocking release in other territories.
So, there won't be any piracy. On the opposite, Tommy Lee Jones' The Homesman [that was mixed in the next room than Knight of Cups], was released 6 month earlier in France than in the US, and the french EuropaCorp video release took place 2 months before the US theater release – which was very stupid from EuropaCorp as they are a coproducer on this film and they are the international sales company (so with their video release, they shot themselves in the foot, as they may have diminished they co-producer/sale agents royalties coming from the US/Canada release and other territories)
I was right : there was already a distributor and they only formalize it later (Broad Green) So it is more probable than before this announcement that these dates are real.. Moreover, these dates are now seen too on various sites where there is no user feedback (so we can guess no false information) on the opposite of IMDb...
I hope not. It screened at Cannes last May so that would be a long wait. I was hoping for maybe a summer release kind of like The Tree of Life. I love Terrence Malick and this is one of my most anticipated of the year without a doubt though!
All international distributors seems to align on the supposed US December date... so it must be true... With most releases taking place between September and December And dates at the earliest at the end of August.
"No firmed up dates yet, but StudioCanal is eyeballing an April 10th release in the U.K., however that has yet to be confirmed." So the Jan. 1 date can't be correct either...right?
I am afraid this release date is not correct anymore. We were asked by the licensor to wait with the release until the US date is def confirmed. I think this also means the Denmark date isn’t accurate as well.
But we’re are trying to release it sooner than the US (preferably this summer), so keep checking our website www.paradisofilms.eu for updates
That confirms what I heard... And when they say summer, it seems these are the last weeks of August at the earliest, not before, as I said.
For the leak problem, it is not a problem: FilmNation will force the earliest distributors to delay the video releases.. (E.g. for The Tree of Life, while France could have had the videos releases around September 15, 2011, as the film was released day and date of its Cannes screening, EuropaCorp was asked by Summit to wait for the US release on October 11)
Also there is to understand something: Broad Green has yet to distribute their first film. That has not happened yet, despite the little handful of films bought for their catalogue in recent months. At the moment, it seems that they are even still in the process of staffing up... So all these months are necessary for them
They might chose to speed things up by subcontracting their first theater distributions with another company, while keeping the copyright/video rights, as did Saban Films for The Homesman by partnering with Roadside Attractions (independently managed but owned by Lionsgate) They could also buy a stake in an existing distributor (as they did last month with Mr Smith in order to build their international sales arm). Or they might build everything from scratch.
This is the very first official confirmation of any release anywhere AFAIK, but I hope more territories will be confirmed soon (especially the UK) ... and ideally all close together so we can have a proper discussion!
Terrence Malick tried to release both of his film on same year.... thats why he shot both film Knight of Cups & Weightless simultaneously... In US, Knight of Cups on March 4th but still we don't know that Weightless will release in 2016 or not? anyway I'm unlucky ... I'm from India... they will never release these two films here
Well, my BluRay has already shipped from Amazon.De, so it looks like I'll be seeing it at Home, rather than the cinema - Studio Canal UK should hang their heads in shame.
