no there there


there is more poetry and pathos to the one-minute parable of the prince and the cup than in this entire two-hour film that seeks to expound on it in repetitive, mind-numbingly dull fashion. this is not soulful filmmaking; it's like the most vapid Calvin Klein ad stretched out ad infinitum. And, instead of actual performances, we get actors walking on the beach like perfume ad models.

I used to defend Malick's recent work but he lost me on this one. The subject matter - a douchey guy with no soul or moral compass or *beep* WORK TO DO -- didn't warrant a minute.

This movie will make anyone a socialist.
