Leprosy
One of the patients that Cate Blanchett sees in her clinic (the one with the skin lesions and the missing fingers) appears to have leprosy. It's interesting I suppose because of its biblical associations, but it also calls to mind the book by the great Paul Brand M.D. entitled "The Gift of Pain", which coincides with one of the major themes of the film. And it's probably not that coincidental. 1John4:4
