Twin Peaks dialogue spliced into the sound design

In one of the various scenes full of lethargically overwhelming sensory overload I distinctly heard an excerpt of dialogue from Twin Peaks. It was the voice of Major Briggs (Don S. Davis) I don't care to peruse Knight of Cups to point out the exact moment I heard it. But, I had closed captioning on and it made it all the more evident that my ears were not deceiving me. Only a few lines from his monologue were used and yadda yadda yadda here's a transcript of that entire monologue it took a slice out of:

"Bobby, may I share something with you? A vision I had in my sleep last night?as distinguished from a dream, which is a mere sorting and cataloguing of the day?s events by the subconscious. This was a vision: fresh and clear as a mountain stream, the mind revealing itself to itself. In my vision I was on the veranda of a vast estate, a palazzo of some fantastic proportion. There seemed to emanate from it a light, from within this gleaming, radiant marble. I had known this place. I had, in fact, been born and raised there, and this was my first return?a reunion with the deepest wellsprings of my being. Wandering about, I noticed happily that the house had been immaculately maintained. There had been added a number of additional rooms, but in a way that blended so seamlessly with the original construction, one would never detect any difference. Returning to the house?s grand foyer, there came a knock at the door. My son was standing there. He was happy and carefree, clearly living a life of deep harmony and joy. We embraced?a warm and loving embrace, nothing withheld. We were, in this moment, one. My vision ended. I awoke with a tremendous feeling of optimism and confidence in you and your future. That was my vision. It was you"

I think I remember hearing parts of this dialogue used when the camera is exploring different parts of LA at night. There was a focus on billboards, beauty advertisements, and buildings. The dialogue was distorted and distant, and kind of eerie sounding. Very interesting it comes from Twin Peaks!!

That's a great find !

I saw the film yesterday and those lines seemed familiar to me, too...

It was used to great effect & it's a hint at Malick's intentions, I guess.

The whole thing felt like a daydream.

The Major Briggs sample is actually from the music that plays in that sequence. It's from a song called "Hyperborea" from the album Substrata by ambient artist Biosphere (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biosphere_(musician)).

There's another song from that album used in the film a little later -- "Kobresia", which is probably my favorite ambient song of all time.
