catcher in the rye ...
KoCs is a perfectly depicted feeling of life ... of the world as such ... Very much as "catcher in the rye" is.
I only wonder how an accomplished, mature filmmaker has the balls (or the need) to pose in that very same perspective.
Maybe it is that what shows in the mind of a young boy is never meant to leave ... Those question about "human condition" ... Trying to make sense ...
If you are able to put your books of rules (and their implied judgements) aside for only two hours, you could be enabled to enjoy what the essential function of art, that is: questioning the existence of what is manifested everywhere as "status quo" and you could have a look into the void of human existence. As in every of Malicks films.
I think the is the funtion of art: It should be always in itch that defers ruled thinking, this is where the feeling/questioning starts ...
So if you are entertained by using movies as feeding illusions to complement ideas of right/wrong this is is not your film. There are a lot others allowing you to identify with heroes and get off with a "good feeling". And be welcomed to the society of attraction.
But still: notice Malick power in dismantling the perverted emptiness of promising carrots (specially in this one) ...
And of course the images are beautifully great. In their voidness. The accomplishment of the space between sensuality and meaning is masterful.
I wish to have the time for watching this movie every time before I go to bed. So that my dreams could have a better perspective in wishes ...
