Over privileged rich white hollywood people problems

What a pointless and vapid film this thing is . Absolutely boring from beginning to end. The cty of los angeles along with nyc have got to be the most over used cities in all of cinema with Paris right behind them . Christian bale is not benicio del toro or johnny depp or somebody that you want to watch for 2 hours on film I really think Malick is losing it and should work with another screen writter and put these films together more cohesive ly . the whole film felt like a CALVIN KLEIN commercial for ETERNITY cologne . I just don't simpathesise with rich over privileged white hollywood actors or film makers . The only thing that was good about this 2 hour bore fest was the cinematography that's is it .

Lol and those rich Hollywood people spout the same liberal social justice warrior garbage as you do.

@op: I figured this was the case from the trailer and reviews. Smh

Well there's your answer right there. The limitation is yours, not Malick's.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

The film is seen through Bale's life in LA, but the message could be universal. If any human has ever felt dissatisfied, inadequate, lost, out of control, or is grieving and longing for something they can't put words to, this movie attempts to touch on those things.

And I think it's safe to say humans feel those things all the time, because the market is full of self-improvement books, weight loss books, new age movements, therapies, treatments, spiritual healing....everything out there is to correct some void or condition, no matter what social class you belong to.

And it's absurd to say a movie is required to have a character's life mirror your own. How did you watch Taxi Driver, Star Wars, Rocky, There Will Be Blood and the hundreds of other comic book and blockbuster movies out there, yet were still entertained and stirred by them?

How were you moved by some Pixar or Disney animated film when the main character is a fluffy animal, female princess, or inanimate object?

A film's message, theme or emotional content can still be effective even if the characters look different, or live in an entirely different time period, country or, literally, galaxy.

^Of course the person with Antonioni's Red Desert as an avatar gets it right!

Malick- An absolute genius who WALKED AWAY from Filmmaking for 2 decades to continue his study and then teaching of Philosophy. Turning down millions over the years, finally making his comeback when he saw fit. Since then, he's used his intelligence to make films how HE WANTS TO.

You- Probably stuck in a basement, with nothing else to do but jump on boards to bash a Filmmaker that you don't care for. Not understanding an ounce of what he does.

Malick Wins.

Finding truth in art requires a subjective understanding. I'm not sure "the black experience" or "the barrio life" is really in malick's wheelhouse like, say spike lee or innaratu.
