Haven't seen To The Wonder, but I really like Tree of Life, Thin Red Line, and Days Of Heaven. Is this pretentious garbage or will I still enjoy it since I liked some of Malick's previous films?
shareIf you like Malick's films, you'll probably like it. If you don't, it's likely you'll hate it. This seems to be why the ratings on his newer films are always kind of split. The Malick fans love them, and the people who aren't fans of his work tend to dislike them.
shareAt this point, I'm still not sure what certain people expect? Malick makes films in a certain way, it's that simple. Either you enjoy the experience or you dont. Now, of course certain films still turn out better than others but I personally love his films. I enjoy sitting back and EXPERIENCING what he's put on the screen. I love how folks call him "Pretentious" lol, just because they hate his work. He's not an easy man to explain and that's the beauty of it. The narrative is always experimental and Lubezki brings beauty to every scene.
With all that said, if you like his recent work, it's fair to say you'll enjoy this. If you dont, you won't like this. People just bash him for Zero Reason. Don't watch, it's not for your eyes. That's how I feel with the Malick haters.
Beautiful to look at and that is it.
