At this point, after making films the way he wants, without an ounce of giving a fluck about what you or anyone else thinks, it's fair to say that this film is Malick being Malick. It's that simple. Trust me, I get it. Although I enjoy every Malick film, I never say the whole, "It's because you don't get it!" type of stuff because I know his work isn't for everyone, in fact, it isn't for most... BUT, I literally can't find a bad film in his Catalog. Some I like more than others. Badlands and Days of Heaven are 2 of my favorite films. The Thin Red Line is a Top 3 War Film and Tree of Life is an Existential Masterpiece. I'm also a fan of The New World and To The Wonder. I just love the EXPERIENCE of his later work. It's all one Big Picture. Very Personal and Biographical. Bottom line, at this point, I'd say you either love or hate him. His style and narrative is completely loose and original... And its here to stay. I just can't look away.
Very well explained. I have concluded that I hate his style. In fact I would not have taken the time to see this one if I had paid attention and noted that it is a Malick film. My fault, not his. But I watched it on a DVD from my library so I am not out any money, only time.
I am not a fan of "deep, thoughtful" movies. I like to be entertained. Like the movies Luc Besson makes.
