John Gielgud's voice?

I could swear that at two separate times in the film, once at the beginning, and then again in the Vegas scene around the 1:16:00 mark, the voice speaking is that of the late Sir John Gielgud. Yet I don't see a credit or a trivia piece saying it's him. So am I crazy or does anyone else hear that voice as Gielgud as well?

reply

I recognized his voice as well, and instantly. As a long-time fan it's definitely him.

Yup, his voice is used in a "song" from some musical or opera and is credited on the soundtrack album.

He's narrating the opening lines of John Bunyan's THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS.

... Gielgud is reading from "Pilgrim's Progress" while Vaughan Williams plays in the background. Malick also has credits for Charles Laughton, reading Psalm 104 as well as from "The Phaedrus". His voice I didn't recognise.
