Malick's films work better with alcohol
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Malick fan. I'm not the guy who'll say "how boring and pointless!" for any of his films. I understand what he's doing and what he's saying in his films, and I love them. But I have to admit, having watched "To The Wonder" and "Knight of Cups" recently, I really wish I had some alcohol with me. I don't get stoned, I stopped about a decade ago for personal reasons, but next time I'll watch "Knight of Cups", I'll make sure I'll have a small bottle of Jack with me (unfortunately beer doesn't have any effect on me, neither wine). I'm not the type of person who needs substances to like some music or a "weird" film, for example, I don't need LSD to listen to Pink Floyd (!!), or to be under the influence to watch a David Lynch film like "Lost Highway", because his films are drugs themselves, but for Malick, and especially the two films I mentioned, I need my brain to be in this kind of mood, because to be honest, although I liked "Knight of Cups", it's a bit "heavy" to carry on watching it without being "relaxed". It's a 2 hour existential trip, you need some alcohol!
