coffee cups?

Sorry if it's been asked before. I looked through a bit plus checked the trivia section and didn't see anything..

I noticed in a lot of the bits, the guys carry a coffee cup. Is there a purpose for that? Is it just a random prop or are they maybe disguising some sort of equipment(no idea what) in it?

It's en empty cup with a microphone hidden in it so they can pick up what he's saying.

You will see them push the cup towards people at times to catch the audio. Very subtle and clever.
