Shame this was cancelled. Read the novels.
I've got to say, I loved this show. It was like no other cop show. It definitely wasn't like CSI or Criminal Minds. There were a lot of dysfunctional characters and dark humour.
It's a shame it got cancelled. The only other show I remember like this was The Unusuals. And that got cancelled after one series as well.
All I can say is if you liked Backstrom, read the novels by Leif Persson. "Backstom" as a TV series was transplanted from Stockholm to Portland, Oregon, and it worked quite well. Bit some of the harsher stuff had to be smoothed off for American audiences. In the books, Backstrom is even more foul-mouthed, sexist, homophobic, displays underlying racism, he is lazy and takes back-handers from time to time. Yet, you end up liking him despite his faults. Maybe it is the dark humour of the writing, but I think they got it across in the TV series.
I hope Netflix or another internet TV service picks this up again.
