Was anyone else hoping Anger would murder Sadness at the beginning?

Everything Sadness did at the beginning ruined everything. I just wanted anger to literally murder Sadness to stop all the trouble she was causing.

Sadness was only doing what she was compelled to do, what Riley was trying to do. Besides, I don't think emotions can be murdered given the context of the film.

Don't take what I'm about to say the wrong way. I love the movie, 10/10, made me cry, changed my life. But the things that happened to get the plot started, (sadness being stupid), was pretty dumb. Also, Joy is a complete dick to sadness. However, the last 20 minutes are the best thing ever and make up for the stupidity at the beginning.

I respectfully disagree, the early events were necessary to set up the later ones. That final payoff wouldn't work if the build up hadn't been executed as well as it had. Glad you loved the film though, it really is one of Pixar's best.

Question: WTF is with that annoying quote at the bottom of every message you post?

Anyway, yes, these events were necessary to set up the plot, I can't think of any different way. Also, can't we all just agree that Fear, Anger and Disgust were all being very stupid in their actions while Joy and Sadness were gone?It is a minor annoyance, but nevertheless a understandable one.

My avatar is the character Haruhi Suzumiya and my signature is something I think she'd have if she had an IMDB account. It's only meant to be a fun character reference, not to be taken seriously.

Update: I've changed my username again, so my signature has changed accordingly. This one should prove to have more of a positive impact.

The first time I watched it, I thought the same but on second viewing (and every viewing since) I realised that it's actually Joy that causes everything to go wrong. She suppresses Sadness and stops her from doing what she's supposed to do, what Riley needs her to do, and that's what causes everything to go wrong. It's while Joy's stopping the sad core memory from being placed with the other core memories that Joy and Sadness get sucked up the tube and removed from headquarters leaving the other emotions in control. We are then shown that Anger is the most destructive emotion. That's the whole point of the movie, that Sadness needs to be felt sometimes and that suppressing it doesn't help.

Sadness was just the messenger for bad news: that Riley was severely stressed by the move to San Francisco. You should focus on the real problems, not the symptoms.

I was also hoping Bing Bong would die. Thankfully, he did! 

reply

No, not really. Joy was the one causing problems by not letting Sadness do her job.
