Why i'm not concerned about whether the movie will bomb or not
I know some of you might think I sound crazy when I say this. But I'm trying to look at this as objectively as I can. I agree it would have been nice to have some panels with the cast at somewhere like SDCC or NYCC (even though the movie had a small presence at both). But I can deal with the fact that actors like Michael and Marion need to promote other projects like 'The Light Between Oceans' or 'Allied' heck without them the movies would have barely two legs to stand on, and they really are some of the best actors working right now. And just because they haven't had panels or events with the cast yet, doesn't mean the cast aren't passionate about it, it more than likely means the studio has just chosen to promote it differently than other films.
- So far they debuted the first trailer on Jimmy Kimmel Live which was a very smart move and gained the attention of many movie goers unfamiliar with Assassin's Creed (Despite using a Kanye song).
- The first 20 minutes of the movie was screened to the press, with most articles expressing that they were impressed with what they saw... With new screenshots being released to the public the same week.
- As well as the on set interviews which followed soon after
- Famous producer Frank Marshall then goes to E3 and reveals more footage giving us a behind the scenes look, which was a great move to gain more interest from both gaming fans and movie fans (E3 being a huge event).
- Then Ubisoft showed off the Leap of Faith video at Gamescom in Germany where the movie had a very strong presence and a great way to promote one of the most iconic parts of the game.
- We got a lot more new information from Kurzel regarding the historical scenes in the movie being in Spanish, as well the rest of the cast in a new issue of Total Film magazine. and we got a lot more new screenshots as well
- A rough cut of the new trailer was shown at 20th Century Fox's presentation at the Kino Expo in russia
- Justin Kurzel did a live Q & A with Total Film, which wasn't great mind you, but still something fun for the fans.
- The movie had a presence at Romics 2016 and the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival
- 20th Century Fox had a massive booth for the movie at Comic Con in Russia
- 4 minutes was shown at Showeb in Paris
- Even the Ezio Collection comes with a free movie ticket with select US retailers.
- And finally we will get a new trailer within the next few days.
There's obviously more they've done but everything else is mostly small stuff. I think when you look at all this, it is clear that 20th Century Fox is thinking beyond just the American audience and making sure that they market the film globally so that hardcore fans and movie goers around the world end up seeing the movie. I think Fox's way of releasing trailers is weird for sure, but I can't say that the movie has had crap marketing when you consider everything they've done to extend the movies global reach, and done quite well. Which is why I don't think the movie will bomb, It could but I don't think it will. I still think that what will really determine the success of this movie however, is whether it garners strong reviews from critics, and that, believe me, will be most interesting indeed. I remain optimistic :)
