Why the second trailer is fantastic

First off I wanna quickly address the elephant in the room THE MUSIC. It's seems as though even when Fox makes a much better trailer people will always complain about a music choice even though it completely fits with the trailer. Allow me to explain.

What are the first scenes we see of Callum Lynch? Him being snarky and rebellious, since the trailer is focused mainly on Callum's character, the music along with the lyrics "this is my world" perfectly emphasise who Callum is as a character, the idea of two different worlds being linked between 2 people, as well as putting emphasis on the action packed scenes of the movie, a crossfade between a beaming light and Callums face couldn't have made that more obvious he is in the spotlight. You're experiencing everything from his point of view. It also helped to create the idea of this being a real event movie, as Justin Kurzel puts it "an unbelievable ride." Something gamers and movie goers alike are going to want to see. It also shows that they're aware of the level ridiculousness this premise presents, and remembering to have fun with it. But hey if it's really that big of a deal to you, then just wait for the final trailer I guess, maybe that'll be the one to give you epic orchestral beats

Second, the trailer still doesn't spoil the whole damn movie and leaves you with lots of questions, this is what trailers these days are forgetting to do, withhold information from the audience but still create anticipation. Visually speaking the movie has improved and looks spectacular. The acting looks top notch, I mean the look on Fassbender's face after he's told he no longer exists, man what a great actor. And hearing Jeremy Irons and Michael K. Williams is always a plus. And it gave me enough to solidify in my mind that it may be the video game movie that breaks out and is genuinely great. Only thing I didn't like in the trailer, "The party's just getting started"... Hmmm I dunno, felt like trailer dialogue that most likely will be cut out of the final release.

Thirdly there's some great fan service thrown in for hardcore fans like myself to geek out over, like the smoke bombs the supposed pistols of Edward Kenway, and Aguilars ring finger missing in a shot of the bleeding effect in action, and much more.

Overall i'm very happy, a significant improvement on the last trailer and I'm still very excited! All this silly negativity for the movie over a song is just getting ridiculous now and I personally just wanna ignore the negative talk until the movie is out.

I think this trailer got the Suicide Squad treatment in terms of its editing and music choice. It takes a fun and ridiculous approach, but it's extremely misleading with the tone of the film, especially having read the first twenty minutes of the movie. They're also really shying away from showing historical persons speaking in Spanish. They might just save that for the theatre. I wonder what the next marketing bit will be

The trailer does kind of have a mindless action type vibe which I am hoping this won't be.

Here's my interpretation... The 2 trailers featuring modern songs are to get butts into the seats $$$ 'Mass appeal...' But the behind the scenes videos are made more for the fans and are more indicative of the movie we are getting hence why they were shown at gaming events like E3 and Gamescom. I also wonder if maybe Fox knows the film is fantastic and is deliberately marketing it in a way where it looks cool and interesting, but nothing really more than that, so that audiences will be genuinely surprised at how good it is.

I think you're spot on. It's really the trend with trailer companies who are tasked to reach a wider audience. The behind the scenes bits are definitely what seem to be the feel of it. Fox is doing something rare, they're actually withholding stuff, and maybe they think what they have is impressive
