In this particular part of the TotalFilm magazine coverage of the movie it is mentioned that Charlotte Rampling features in the production as a "senior Templar" with an agenda opposite to Alan Rikkin (Jeremy Irons), the CEO of Abstergo.
Does anyone have more information and how could such an imprortant casting not be publicized more?
No, there's no other information currently, and I doubt that TotalFilm was supposed to reveal this. Most likely, Rampling is a secret actress in this project, and that's why they are hiding her presence in it. She'll appear in a cameo or an episodic role, I guess.

Well, that's even more surprising. It seems like her role is bigger than I thought, if her name is on the poster and even before Michael K. Williams's name, who has pretty big presence in this film. But I'm glad there will be more of her.

It seems like there will be a power struggle within the modern Templar order but whether Rampling's the true villain of the film or the Irons-Cotillard duo remains to be seen. My guess would be that she will initially appear much more sinister than Irons but subsequently he will emerge as the true villain of the film.

This family tree also confirms that Sophia is a Templar. They'd better not gave this one away, because I was actually wondering to what side she is loyal and wanted the film to reveal it. But, anyway...

I think they mean testing her allegiance to her father since it's been reported that's she ignorant of the assassin and Templar conflict
shareShe has a Templar mark beside her on this DNA tree. Maybe when the film starts she's not Templar yet, but at the end of the film she becomes the one, and they've gave away this, um, twist or something. You can't tell either she is villainous or not from the trailers.

I'm just hoping Marion isn't another Miranda Tate/Talia. But her role smells that unfortunately. Or she'll play against Templars and Assassins, who knows.

She is totally intense. Amazing to have her in this film. Wait until u see her.
That makes me think that she's the head villain of the film, the Emperor to Irons' Vader so to speak. I believe though she will end up either dead or incapacitated and Irons' Rikkin character will emerge triumphant as the real villain behind the plot of this and the sequels, should there be any.
shareDon't forget about Marion Cotillard and her Sophia. She was the main villain in all her previous blockbuster appearances, so maybe she'll beat both Rampling and Irons in Assassin's Creed as well.

We may be projecting tropes on a film we are yet to see but I would guess that if there are sequels and Sophia (Cotillard) survives this first film, she will develop a kind of antagonistic relationship with her father (Irons) and maybe prove to be the ultimate villain of the series. The promotional material just depicts her as so sinister and intense.
