I'm gonna be
kind of pissed if this is horrible. I remember this being announced like 4 years ago and being excited about it then. I'm sure it won't be great but it sure better be at least descent.

shareWhy you are sure it won't be great? Cause I'm sure it will.
Nolan, I love you forever!share
Cause it's a video game movie, I just have a hard time imagining one coming along and suddenly being great.
shareFirst, Assassin's Creed is not a video game movie, it's a movie based on a video game. There's a difference. It features the original plot and characters set in the same universe as the game, not tries to adapt the already existing plot and characters from the game, which a video game movie could do.
And second, someone has to do it sometime. I mean, make the first great movie based on video game. There's not really a curse on this genre, there's not really a curse on anything. But filmmakers didn't get how to do it before. With this one, things might turn out to be great. The whole cast and crew are the professionals of the highest level, and people from Ubisoft itself are supporting them on 100%.

I can't conceive of anything of anything that will definitely go wrong at this point in time. One possibility is that fans might be upset that about 70% of the movie is taking place in the present day rather than the historical setting like the games and that Justin Kurzel might of had trouble translating the appeal of the games to the movie. One thing is for sure, Ubisoft's involvement will most likely prevent it from straying too far from the source material and probably insure that it will keep fans happy even if movie critics crap all over it (like what happened with Blizzard's involvement with Warcraft).
shareI've been waiting for this for the last 4 years as well. Your trepidation regarding video game movies completely understandable, but I just want to point out one thing Michael Fassbender (and I believe Justin Kurzel as well, at some point) said:
"We're not trying to make a good video game movie- we're trying to make a good movie."
For me, this quote dispels my worries because it shows that the filmmakers treated this as a story in a script- the same way they treated last year's Macbeth. So I'm more optimistic and excited than apprehensive. Hopefully this helps you feel better about it too! :D

Very fair points. The only reason I am so hopeful is because Ubisoft is so involved in it, like you said. I'll certainly try to keep a realistic view. Since it's a new story from Ubisoft though, as a fan I'm very open to new and unexpected things happening in the film so long as it nails and respects the franchise. :)
shareI think the signs are looking very favourable.
Aside from being a movie based on a videogame I don't really see anything that worries me.
If it's better than Warcraft, I'll be pleased.
The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.
