shareGood question. I think there is a villain in the present, played by Jeremy Irons, and a villian in the past who can be clearly seen in the first trailer. But I hope the movie makers found some clever way to connect the characters, creating one storyline that involves two time periods.
shareThe main villain in the past section will be Tomas de Torquemada, an Spanish Friar, played by Javier Gutiérrez. He's the Chief Inquisitor, after all.
The biggest problem with society is that it refuses to believe that different opinions do exist.
In the present timeline it is either Jeremy Irons or Charlotte Rampling or Marion Cotillard. Irons and Cotillard plays the chief people at Abstergo, with Irons also portraying one of the high-ranking members of the Templar Order, while Rampling plays some powerful woman in Templar Order as well, it is known that her power can be equated to Irons' character.
In the past it definetely is Javier Gutiérrez, who plays the Grand Inquisitor himself.

"it is either Jeremy Irons or Charlotte Rampling or Marion Cotillard."

Oh, I would Absolutely Love it if it turned out to be Marion Cotillard that was playing the Main Villain.
I thought it was Jeremy Irons?
What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
Since this will be a trilogy, there should be a villain for entire franchise for present day. It was said that past stories might happen in other period, so I don't see a historical villain for the whole saga. Probably Thomas de Torquemada will be killed in the movie, since he will be Aguilar's main goal. But other historical villains should come with next movies.
shareBased on the trailer, the villains seem to be Torquemada and Irons but I think Cotillard is the main one. She gives "good girl who's actually evil" vibes.

I hope your right but I am not getting that impression from her.
What impression are you getting?

That Marion Cotillard's character is good and not a villain at all.
shareMaybe. She gives me the classic good girl who's actually evil vibes.
shareLOL, Just like her character in "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES".
shareYes!
shareI will be very disappointed if Marion Cotillard's character is either not a villain or starts off as a villain but then turns good at the end.
shareLike in Allied?

LOL, I haven't seen "ALLIED".
shareThen you probably should, because it's a very interesting role she has in it: you can't be sure either she's a villain or not, until the very end of the film. ;)

LOL, Yeah I actually heard about the ending already!
That she is indeed a Nazi Spy but only because they were threatening their daughter and in the end, she ends up killing herself. Is all of that correct ?
Everything is correct except for the daughter. I don't quite remember the moment when she says that or this is stated by someone else. But this is possible because there were so many words in the second part that I could have missed it.
