In the games you only see a tiny ass bloodspurt and nothing more. You can hardly call that R-rated material.
Absolutely. How much blood and gore a movie has does nothing to improve its story. If the movie is going to suck, it would be because the story was bad and untrue to the games, not due to a perceived lack of violence.
And for the record, I do not think this movie will come anywhere close to sucking. If the initial rumors were true and the movie was a direct adaptation of the first game and Fassbender played Desmond... then it would suck. The fact that it continues the story from the games with new and exciting characters is what gives it such great potential.
