That's just some stars and the film's name on a site, no in depth write up either. Can't really put any stock in it.

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

No but it's a number, which given the fact that it comes from movie critics seems to be a good sign. By the the way, though the shortlist hasn't been announced yet, I've noticed here that Assassin's Creed has at least been submitted for consideration of the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination, which is either them being ballsy and taking a chance (considering the source material and how game-based movies have done in the past) or they think that it might have a chance of at least getting shortlisted:

I know that it's listed as unranked in that list but I'm not going to pay attention to that because they're not going make the the prediction of that getting onto the shortlist given that it's based on a game, we will only know when they release the shortlist. I guess that explains why the review embargo date is so close to the day it opens in cinemas (the day before), they don't want the reviews inadvertently affecting the votes. Remember we were worried that the embargo date was a bad sign? I guess there was no reason to worry, the probably wouldn't of submitted it for that category if they had no confidence in the film.

Super interesting! I would think the movie should be submitted for other categories as well (best actor, best director, best cinematography, etc.) but it's really cool to at least know it's there in some capacity already.

Go and have a browse through its that way in more than just the Adapted Screenplay category, it's in a lot of the technical areas like Make-Up, Cinematography, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Production Design, and Cinematography etc.

It's out of the running for Best Visual Effects though, but interestingly Warcraft made it to the shortlist of that one so far.

Very cool!! Hopefully this is the first of many high score reviews!

There were plenty of bad movies given a high Critic Choice score.

The new "Ghost Busters". Need I say more?

reply

Ok, but isn't it better that the movie starts out with a 90/100 than a 60/100.

reply

Um, regardless of your personal opinion, a high critic score is good for fans and for the movie to get more recognition from general audiences. Plus, arguing that video game movies are still "bad" would no longer be valid if you compare it to past critic scores. Need I say more?

I just wish I could say that could guarantee a good box office return if both audiences and fans like it but given that it's opening next week, when everyone is still frothing at their mouths over Rogue One, I'm not so sure.
