Going to Flop in Part Because of Rogue One

Not looking good.

reply

Its going to be the second best movie only Rogue one will beat it. But it ain't gonna flop, because most people go to more movies a month especially in xmas month.

reply

Third best.
It comes out the same day as Passengers which is a big budget sci-fi film with 2 of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Have you ever noticed that the people who say "DC is for adults and Marvel is for kids", are kids?

reply

No it will beat Passengers.

reply

I don't see that happening. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are just about two of the biggest names around right now. Fassbender is terrific but he isn't the box office draw of those two.

This film will have to really rely on the fans of the games to come out in droves and I just don't see that happening...as a fan of the game that almost certainly will not be seeing this in theaters.

Going to Flop in Part Because of Rogue One

Yea.... that will be part of the reason. The other part is because its going to suck, probably.

reply

Plus all of the AC haters will troll the film. AC in general is a very divisive franchise.

reply

The latest installments are very divisive, but not the whole franchise at all. The first game and Ezio trilogy had universal acclaim, and III with Black Flag had also very good reception.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

And Sing should easily beat it as well.

Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, and Meryl Streep are far more recognizable to the average public than Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence also don't have a proven box office track record; they were both part of films that had to do with franchises, yet nothing about those films they were in can be contributed to the star power those two "have."

reply

Should have moved this to January. People would have understood.

The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

reply

January is the known month for releasing the most hopeless films out there.

Nolan, I love you forever!

I have to agree but not only because of Rogue One. It just doesn't look that good. It's never a good sign when they don't give you a decent understanding of the plot in trailers. They've kept it so vague and the visuals I have seen far have decent but nothing special. I hope I'm wrong though, at some point someone has to make a decent movie based on a video game.

Well, I thought the first Silent Hill was decent but everything else has been garbage.

I think it's really just a movie made for people who are fans of the game. Fans of the game know the basic theme of the game series, so they assume they'll flock to this. I can't speak for everyone obviously, but I have no interest in seeing this. When I was playing the series I thought it would be cool to see adaptations of those stories. The movies wouldn't take away from the games and it would just be cool seeing all those great characters on the big screen. However, I don't like the idea of a completely new story that isn't playable because that's the fun of the games, you controlling the story. Plus, there's something about Michael Fassbender that is off-putting to me. I have no idea what it is considering what I've seen him in he's always delivered a solid performance, I just don't really care for the guy.

Hey, how about the fact that I fought an Avenger and didn't die?

If a movie made just for fans was their intention then why the fluff would they waste everyone else's time with a theatrical release? The fan base for a video game has never been enough to garner the return box office numbers. It wasn't with Warcraft, and it most certainly won't with Assassins Creed. They could have saved themselves the trouble and just brought it straight to DVD or Netflix for crying out loud instead of taking up spots in theaters that could have been used for other movies.

reply

They really should have released it the first weekend of December. Going against Star Wars is suicide.

Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough?

reply

Agreed. Pretty bad timing but if they rescheduled it for early December it would have looked suspicious really. Saying that though I think they would definitely have made more in doing that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see..

reply

Unless it barely flops, don't blame Rogue One.

The Force Awakens was awesome and only a very tiny, but very vocal, group of people hated it.
If you frequent IMDB boards its seems half the population hated Episode 7. But in the real world almost everyone thought it was great.
The number of people who wont see Rogue One because they didn't like The Force Awakens is going to be so small it wont have any effect at all on the movie's success.

Have you ever noticed that the people who say "DC is for adults and Marvel is for kids", are kids?

reply

But they're going to run out and see Assassin's Creed after every videogame movie in the history of cinema receives mostly criticism?

Also, Star Wars 7 has like an 8.1 on IMDb. Universal acclaim on RT and Metacritic.

That's why critical reception of the movie is important. If the first reviews come out and they are mostly positive, then that might encourage more people to see the movie. If not, it'll probably bomb.

reply

I can assure you that most people actually like The Force Awakens. If not as many people go to see Rogue One, it will mostly be because of the fact that it's more of a Star Wars spin-off movie than a direct follow-up.
