You can call movie "a flop" only when it's out of the cinemas, but it's still showing, and is not out even yet in various countries.

Movie will be the change maker for video game adaptations
shareIt's a very strong possibility that it will end up losing a lot of money because of the insanely high budget and it's strong competition at the box office. They've made some very questionable dicisions. We will have to wait and see what happens.
shareUbisoft has already been on record saying they are not expecting to make a lot of money with this movie. They are using it as an advertisement tool for the games.
shareIsnt it a little late for that?
*beep* ive owned 1, 2, 3, black flag, and unity. I know there is at least 3 other games. But most of them are old and past the price point of good profit.
Then again, i wouldnt be surprised if the released 5 more games in the next few years. Lol
They meant that the movie is an advertisement for the future games. I thought it was pretty obvious.

Big chances, yeah. I think it will have a worldwide gross of 350-400M. Bad promotion, strong competition, extremely high budget...very hard to see this being a hit. I hope Ubisoft achieves its goal though, which is increase the fanbase of the game.
shareYeah, I think that can be a big plus for Ubusoft at least. I wonder how much of the budget they're covering. I think it might be most of it
shareYeah. Do you know how much Warcraft film helped sales of the game?
I don't know. According to Wiki, these are the producers:
Regency Enterprises
Ubisoft Entertainment
New Regency Pictures
Ubisoft Motion Pictures
DMC Film
The Kennedy/Marshall Company
DMC is a very small company do I doubt they are putting a lot of money in it. I think Ubisoft and New Regency are the ones responsible for most of the 200M budget.
It might've helped Blizzard. Warcraft has a long and dated history though, and it's not on console which is more popular than PC. The popularity of the franchise has really waned over time but it's established fan base is huge.
I wonder how much is being put into the marketing. I don't think the regular formula would apply here since it seems like funds aren't going to advertisement lol. Ubisoft is already prepared to take up a loss and make it up through their games. Maybe this is one reason they haven't moved that date and Fox doing as little as possible
I agree with that. I think Fox and Ubisoft know it has big chances of flopping and maybe this is why they aren't spending a lot of money on promotion. BvS spent 150M with marketing, AC will spend like 70-85M I guess. Ubisoft has already said their goal is new gamers and they don't expect the film to be a hit. They can achieve that easily.
