Was this the final straw?
Should people just accept that video game adaptations won't ever be good?

They're not going to stop making them. I think critics are just bias towards them. This was definitely one of the better video game movies.

Once filmmakers get out of the idea of "This is just a video game we can do whatever" then we'll get a good one. If books (also comics) to film can do well then video games can also.

For better or worse, I'm amazed that we haven't had a Grand Theft Auto movie yet!

I thought they were at one point with 50 cent as the lead. Was I wrong?
shareWaaaaay too risky.
The script, casting, overall mood of the film has to be spot on. GTA is a simple title/thought, but the scope of the narrative is broad IMO.
Hollywood tried doing the same thing with Need For Speed. The studios even went towards banking off of Aaron Paul and his success from Breaking Bad.
To me it failed, on-top of sitting at 6.5 currently here. It may not seem like it, but things like this can be detrimental to a video game that has a franchise and old school following.
AC has a future that's hanging on by a thread with subpar releases every year after AC2 (maybe AC:Revalations) so Ubisoft allowing the writers or studios to screw up their first big screen adaption was dumb.
The next game release is rumored to be 2018 with brand new everything. Hopefully this gives old fans and new ones a chance to erase this crap from our brains.
Sad, M.Fassbender would have mad an incredible Desmond/Ezio and was disgustingly underused with his skill set.
Say what you will about Need For Speed, but that was a fun movie. To this day I am a little shocked Need For Speed got a movie treatment, but I guess that's Hollywood for you.
shareI accepted it in 1995 when we got my 2 favorite games turned into sh!t movies, and I was 13 at the time ! They will always suck.
shareThere will have to be an anomaly

Yea...I think so. Its really sad coz a serious actor like Fassbender took it up with sincerity and brought along other actors with weight. And if ever there was a game which could be turned into a movie it is this one. Not too grounded in reality and has an imagination but not too out there as well.
