what time frame is the movie set over? * Spoilers *

thought i'd hate this and almost turned it off a few minutes in but i stuck with it and really enjoyed the movie.

Question though, what time frame is the movie set over? i never really grasped just how long he was in the hospital pumping that generator.

The fact that people seemed to be desperate for food so quickly seemed a little unrealistic unless the movie was set over the course of a few weeks, which it clearly wasn't, but people don't get that desperate, that quickly do they?

Was it ever indicated?

It seems that Paul Walker's character was at the hospital for 3 days (1st day) was when his wife died, they took long to get to him because thats when Hurrican Katrina hit and he was at least in the hospital by himself for 48 hours because they wanted to keep the baby on a respirator for that long to help her lungs develope.
