Message of the film: Even the most conservative person can be redeemed

At least that seemed to be the liberal message I got after watching the film. (I'm fairly moderate myself.) It seemed like a typical liberal "message" movie starring Matt Damon.

But now I'm confused. Apparently this was funded by some oil tycoons in the United Arab Emirates trying to sully the reputation of natural gas and fracking, while furthering their own oil agenda. So if this is funded by oil tycoons, is it really a liberal movie? It kind of comes off that way, but in the end I think this is just an anti-fracking movie, with no political agenda at all. Just a propaganda film for the oil industry (which I would definitely not consider to be liberal.)

Mirror inspector is a job I could really see myself doing.

Of course this is funded by foreign oil. OPEC doesn't want the West switching to natural gas, and a huge chunk of Russia's GNP and international power comes from its virtual monopoly on natural gas exports to Eastern Europe. If you ask me, most of the anti-fracking protesters out there are probably funded through environmental shell corporations by the Russians. Why not? They're doing it in Canada over the Gateway pipeline.

The really pathetic part is the smart guys like Matt Damon (so I hear) are so ridiculously naive and idealistic that they volunteer to shill for these Arab oil sheiks, so ready to believe that ANY petroleum "corporation" is up to no good, and victimizing the farm folk in Mr. Burns greed-mode.
So pathetic. Never even wonders why OPEC would fund an American independent film that's critical of fossil fuel production.

These Hollywood types live in a bubble surrounded by fawning yes-men. I'll bet no friend or employee has ever looked Matt Damon or Alec Baldwin in the face and said, "You're wrong. THIS is what's really going on!" It's all, "Good idea, Matt! You're really a good person!"

It isn't just natural gas that the Middle East has a problem with, US oil production has skyrocketed in the last couple years, the US will surpass Saudi Arabia in the next year or two and become the largest oil producer in the world. If movies like this succeed and frac'ing is banned, the US Natural Gas AND Oil industries would completely disappear.

What's really pathetic is most of these green activists don't seem to realize what the alternatives are if they manage to kill natural gas and domestic oil. They think we will all get sprinkled with pixie dust and start building expensive and inefficient wind and solar farms. It ain't gonna happen. Americans will NOT voluntarily spend 3 or 4X as much for green energy when cheap and DIRTY coal is waiting in the wings.

Haha of course it was typical lib-tarded rubbish! Good post, OP...

And excellent responses from some posters here.

The poster above me, Paul-2219 is absolutely correct...

Until we can develop some form of clean energy, we NEED oil; and natural gas is an excellent route to go - for the meantime while working on cleaner energies.

Even if some of these lib-tards do put their money where their mouth is (heh, pardon the cliche), and ante up by not using anymore fuel, etc. they STILL will be supporting the industry (unless they don't eat food), and partake in other normal activities... And if they're all about humanitarianism, they support fossil fuels, and natural gases, etc. because that is the only way we can transport food aid to all the impoverished kids in third world countries - and even transport food to the poor families within America (planes, and mostly tractor-trailers)...

Noe one thing I do have an issue with is the LOCATION of some of the wells. There's no need to place a well 50 yards next to one's home... There's enough room to drill away from people... ANd unless the person signs and agrees to the well being within a certain proximity, or for some reason they literally "HAVE" to place it there to hit a goldmine or fuel or something, it shouldn't be allowed.

And of course they need to ensure no short cuts are taken to save money, and all the proper procedure, and protocol are obeyed. I don't think anybody has an issue with strictly regulating the industry - when there are such hazard potential - it's necessary.

However, this movie acts like it's an almost certainty that fracking leads to all this death, and desutrction! When in reality, if all precautions are followed (as aforementioned), then it's a perfectly clean, safe process...

The pros sooooo heavily outweigh the cons of fracking...

Random thought: I think nuclear energy is the way to go, and there's soo much we can do to unlock nuclear energy, and inhibit most or all of the hazards...

If you think this is liberal propaganda, this is me shaking my head. This is about corporate corruption and greed. Why anyone wants to cast that in terms of a worn-out fake liberal/conservative divide is just baffling to me.

Liberal's don't care about the agenda of the people funding the film, as long as the film fits their agenda and involves heavy propaganda. Everything is a means to an end for the lefties. Everything.

Over consumption is a problem all its own, solar heat, windmills, are only a couple of examples of a substitution for natural gas, eventually natural gas will be completely gone, what to do then?

The real crime in fracking is that it can, it has, and it will destroy natural waterways, creeks and streams that have contained natural life for thousands of years. Mother nature cannot be replaced.
