I hated that they got all "omg boys are SO different from girls" in the episode were they got to know the baby's gender. Gender stereotyping much? I would expect more from a show revolving gay parents than that, but I guess they don't have the guts to be progressive at all. And the fact that they didn't for one second think about their own experience with being a different boy and lead that to reflections on how there is no "one right way" to being a boy... Really dissapointed.

I love that episode, it's my favourite of the season thus far. But I do have to say, that's what bugged me the most about that particular plotline. Even if they did have a girl, David could still bring her up to love sports, just as Bryan could still bring their son up to appreciate the more feminine things Bryan likes. It's not cut and dry, obviously. I'm a girl and as a kid, I was obsessed with Star Wars.

But I think unfortunately, the gender stereotype is so engrained in people, it's the natural first reaction to say "oh no! we can't do boy things with our girl or girl things with our boy!"

They could stop the racist writing for the stereotypical black character.

I totally agree. The writing of Nene's character as this stereotypical sassy black woman is also problematic. The concept of this show is good and I like the actors, but Ryan Murphy is just AWFUL. He did this with Glee too. Every character is a stereotype and the women are weak and annoying. Two shows that could have been great, but Ryan Murphy f-cked them up with his reinforcement of stupid stereotypes.

Really? How? Because I study this and there are no evidence whatsoever to support that interests and what we like is biological. Do you actually believe that boys are born to love football?

Lol @arguing that the isn't a biological basis for innate differences in character, personalotoies, other brain-related traits after billions of years of evolution and sexual dimorphism. That's worse than trying tomatguenthat black people and Asians are biologically the same, and that it is culture that makes black people better at football than Asians (which someonemhasmargued lol), but this is worse.

I'm so sick of what our society has become. Everything has to be progressive, everything and everyone has to accept everything and everyone. A show or movie shouldn't dare involve stereotypes or make jokes at the expense of a group of people. Or else they will have to deal with groups of outraged Americans striving for acceptance and demanding an apology because they get too easily offended. It is the most annoying thing ever. Big deal, there is "gender stereotyping." Well, news flash, more guys like football than girls. More girls like purses and make-up than guys. When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed it was a joke. I assumed you were going to make a point that TV shows seem to try too hard to be progressive and PC. I was really looking forward to agreeing with you. But you are nuts.
