Not really about the shining.


The shining isn't really what this movie is about. That movie acts as a foil to set up a more broad discussion on the human tendency to digest and interpret things in ways that are unique to each viewer. It's a comment on the inner working of the human mind, about obsession, and about symbolism.


That said there are some strange little tie bits that take place in the film that some of these people have uncovered that are no doubt really there; the dopey picture on the door, the chair that goes missing. It's interesting.
