2001. You can't be serious about the rest.

And frankly, any movie deserving in-depth analysis deserves a better documentary than this collection of complete tripe.

"You liked Rashomon."
"That's not how I remember it."

you don't think ANgel heart deserves one?

There's many examples of this on Youtube. I recently watched a video where somebody broke down Punch-Drunk Love and suggested that Adam Sandler's character is Superman. The beauty of that analysis is that at the start I was laughing at it but by the end I was convinced it was deliberate. The theories in Room 237 though were complete hogwash (well, most of them).

the only theory in 237 that wasnt hogwash, I think, was the calmet placement.
clearly that was meant as a foreshadow of types.

the number 42, 13, multiples of 7....? i dont know. basically hogwash or just general purposeful placement, but not for some greater meaning.

Did the guy who spoke about the 'recurring 42' actually point out any other 42's other than Danny's jumper? Because I was expecting this long list of subliminal 42's and it never came.

Also when it was suggested that Kubrick's face is in the clouds at the start of the film, the guy doesn't photoshop it for us! This documentary was so, so frustrating because it presented these wacky theories but didn't investigate, disprove or pursue them.

i actually lold when he started on multiples. thats really pushing it in my opinion. if there 10+ cases of a number then cool but dont start just adding numbers that help you out!

as for OP quesion 2001 and any lynch film would be cool

angel heart is horrible so no thanks :p

Mulholland Drive by David Lynch could definitely stand up to dissection like this, it has so many clues and ways of looking at it.

I would love to watch one about Mulholland Drive. Salon.com already did a great article about it years ago that could be a great jumping off point.

I would also love to see one of these about Citizen Kane.
And I would watch one on The Matrix triology too.

Crap....there are alot.
Pi, Primer, Suicide Circle/Noriko's Dinner Table/Love Exposure, Lily Chou-Chou...I would love a Room 237-esque movie about a ton of flicks. Though maybe a little more serious and not so silly.

Any movie and every movie. The Shining itself actually has very little to do with what this documentary is about -- it just happens to be the object these people are focusing their interpretations on. The documentary is mostly about how people can, and will, make up their minds that something is true (even when it's not), and will then filter out anything that doesn't support their theory, and magnify anything that they can pretend does support it. The human mind is a very strange thing - it can convince itself of almost anything... and, because of selective interpretation, people can believe all kinds of incredibly wrong and ridiculous things with great conviction.

Somebody determined enough could decide that Gone With The Wind was about the moon landing and find all kinds of evidence in the film to support their crazy idea... and it wouldn't even matter that the film had been made around 40 years before the moon landing happened.
