Jack wears a red jacket. This represents the blood of the jews who died in the holocaust.
The movie would occasionally cut to Danny as weird stuff happens in the hotel. This represents society's reactions to the holocaust.
When blood comes out of the elevator, the elevator doors are red, the lower end of the walls are black and the floor is yellow. Red, black and yellow. Those are the colors of the German flag. The holocaust took place in Germany. It represents the horrors being unleashed in Germany.
Danny riding his tricycle through the hotel represents his inner struggle for daily repetition... in the holocaust
"But how do all the carpet penises fit into your theory? I see you also failed to incorporate the obvious minotaur symbolism."
For some reason, your last line had my laughing to the point of tears. That whole Minotaur thing was utterly ridiculous. Everyone who looks at that poster can clearly see the skier is actually representing an NFL cornerback dropping into a cover 4 who missed the jam on his wide receiver (perhaps he was too slippery? Hence this snow) and was therefore "burned," obviously representing hell. Whith just the impression of a ski pole in the picture and not really a clear shot of a ski pole, the WR clearly scores a touchdown (ski pole=goal post) but the corner was so far out of the play that he only got the impression of a touchdown. All this, obviously, proves that the government faked the moon landing.
I believe that the 'minotaur' in the poster is actually meant to represent 'Ullr' from Germanic-Norse mythology. Ullr is the god of skiing, and this motif is also present in the name of Stuart Ullman ('Ull' is another way of writing 'Ullr'); therefore, he is the Ull-man and that's why Jack asks him about skiing. Coincidentally (or not) there is also a festival devoted to Ullr held every year in Colorado not far from where the Stanley Hotel (Overlook) is located.
