For God's sake they are not twins!

These people did all this research and theorizing yet they don't know that the girls are not twins??! Plus, a lot of what they say Kubrick did was Stephen King's writing.

I get that they are referring to things inputted into the film but come on, at least know who you are talking about when referring to dialogue. Yes Kubrick wrote the screenplay but he took a lot from the book. There are only so many changes you can make. Even though Stephen King hated Kubrick s interpretation he did use a lot of the book in the movie. Had he not, it wouldn't even be the Shining.

Anyone who knows the story knows this. I still was intrigued and some of it seemed like it was plausible. But the stuff they got wrong was just annoying.

Even Jack Nicholsen and Shelly D, didn't like that Kubrick got credit for a lot of what was Stephen King's writing. If you read the trivia section:

Both Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall have expressed open resentment against the reception of this film, feeling that critics and audiences credited Stanley Kubrick solely for the film's success without considering the efforts of the actors, crew or the strength of Stephen King's underlying material.

And here these theorists are doing the same thing. Which just bursts their theory's origins, even if they do seem somewhat possible, since a lot of them came from King.

Kubrick is great. We all agree. But he did not do it alone.

And the cloud theory was just goofy. Not that I wouldn't doubt Kubrick would do that. And the elevator door did open during the blood scene. Not all of them but the one on the left.

Almost every one of them did not like the Shining on first viewing. Clearly they never warmed up to it as they only were interested in their Kurbrick theories. Which is fine but it's true that a lot of what they said was King's writing.

If one more person said, 'It's not his best work" I was going to call them up (as if they would answer ). Horror movies are rarely taken as "good work". I think the Shining is great. I love it. I watch it at least twice a year.

My suggestion is if they don't like horror movies (even though it's not really that scary - to me none are. They are all pretty goofy but I still love them)don't watch it just for the director. Most likely they won't like it.

I am not a huge war movie fan (too sad) and if I like the director I might watch but I wouldn't then go on a tangent about how much it sucks. Of course I wouldn't like it, since it's not my forte.

And if they are such huge Kubrick fans why not respect his choice in making this film? Obviously he loved it enough to make a movie about the book. By respect I don't mean pick it apart until it suits their theories so THEN they can respect it.

Blah.

I agree on a different film as many theorize Kubrick MUST have named HAL 9000 after IBM as the coincidence in the letters of the company. But people seem to only credit Kubrick but never that that could easily have been attributed to the writer Arthur C. Clarke. But no one ever mentions that. As great a filmmaker as he was, there's always the material he's adapting that rabib fans seem eager to accredit anything to Kubrick and ignore the contributions of the actual creators of these worlds.

Very very strange in that I don't think very many other directors are given that level of omnipotence maybe is the word? I will say though while I love his films this documentary fails in that its not about theories but these people that are so certain, and the only person who could really clear this up has passed. And they are presented almost as a CERTAINTY not what I'd call something I'd entertain.. or something to make you think. But more about people who obsess and will only espouse that I am RIGHT, not really giving the idea allowing they could be wrong.
