What this film illustrates
as played out on this board is that people cannot bear to consider something weird and fantastic unless it is labelled 'to be weird and fantastic'. People cannot tolerate other view points and allow that others find the world less prosaic and material. This illustrates well the point drawn in the film that humanity chooses to forget, to ignore actively and repress intentionally what disturbs.
Ultimately, it matters not that anyone in the film is right, or that Kubrick may have had intentions other than adapting a horror novel. What matters is that not everyone sees the same things and that is an opening to explore perception and assumptions made about things. But most want to close, to mock and to kill such exploration.
