S06E02 - Loch Henry

Very good, disturbing.

SPOILERS

Imagine finding out your parents torture people for kicks.

This was not my favorite episode.

The message seemed to be about how documentary film studios (or media in general) and even friends (the barkeep) can be apathetic to the pain and suffering of others, as long as they profit from it.

This was not expressed very clearly. You had to think a bit, at the end, about why the son was so sad, drinking champagne in his tuxedo, hanging up on his friend, staring at the award, crying. (Was it all worth it?) How many people would care, when the episode spent most of its time on being a short horror story, which it did well enough, with little time spent showing why what had happened was so wrong.

It was not the standard Black Mirror cup of tea that I was expecting.

This one and ep 5 with the demon were my fav of the series but i agree neither are in the spirit of the show and would be better as stand alone films. I haven't seen the last one yet.

Weird that Janet just left all the evidence(tapes) of her and her spouse criminal acts out in the open instead of stash them in the attic or hiding them. Wonder if she is kinda hopping someone would find out about their crime

btw I feel that the Janet cussing scene somewhat wacky, is that how old ladies cuss over there?

Sometimes the best disguise is to be out in the open (hide in plain sight). She probably assumed that no one will watched such a boring series. Her son has no motivation to watch these series. On the other side, if you find tapes in the attic, 99% you will watch it. It increases your curiosity, added a sense of mystery. That's the argument I can make in her favor.

Yes, I felt it was an homage to Edgar Allen Poe's short story The Purloined Letter, a clever, satisfying detective story in which the crucial piece of evidence the police are after is a letter openly placed upon a writing desk. The police tear the flat apart looking for it to no avail because the best hiding place is "in plain sight." I also thought it was really clever to put the footage on those VHS tapes of that '80's detective series. It was inspired thinking to bet that no one would watch a single episode to the end, let alone put a single tape into a VCR in the first place.

Like people have already said, this is not really a BM episode. Decent episode overall though. I also liked the red herring with the bartender's dad. However, the bartender being all carefree about all that happened in spite of his bar getting tons of new traffic seemed very out of character. Like, he was a bit of a dork, but he didn't seem to be some extremely selfish heartless person. He would never have talked to the MC like that afterwards.
