Why is this so boring?

I love good SF, and horror.

But in spite of several attempts over the years I have never managed to make it trough any whole episodes of this bland broth.

Its just so mindnumbingly boring to watch.
The dialogue is painful to endure.

I think its partly because they spend such a big part of every episode to set up the "every day"-nes of the characters.

You have to sit through watching them brush teeth, drink coffee, and fiddle with their phones for awhile before anything can start happen.

And by that time you kinda hate their boring ass.

I get it, they are everyday people, and they have phones!

It's called an attention span. Most people use it to get involved in a story and allow the writer to build a world for us to believe in, invest in and feel. Without gradual pacing used to introduce each idea and have them finally pay off at the end, it is not a story. You might as well read the Wikipedia synopsis if you just want the barebones story and twist.
I doubt you like good sci-fi from what you've said.

It didn't use to be this way. If you look at the older episodes, some of them are much faster, complexer, brighter and deeper than the new ones from season 3.
I'd say skip the new episodes all together and go for some of the oldies like 'Entire History of You, White Bear and White Christmas. Some are also, however, entirely skippable, like Be Right Back and The Waldo Moment, both wich I'd say fall right into you description of ''dialogue painful to endure'. Others except for new season ones, are pretty solid, though.

they weren't necessarily faster, but I def felt uneasy and uncomfortable, while s3 seems more like heeblywoods moronic idea of what a 'product' should look like, and it's not great so far (2 ep in)
