What could you do in San Junipero? *spoilers*

I missed the bit about the cigarettes tasting of nothing (though did notice that if it was supposed to be 1987, hardly anyone was smoking - I was going to clubs like this when i was this age, the gothy one too) - so why would you smoke? Does it follow you can't get drunk? You can enjoy sex it seems. The fight at Quagmire and what Kelly said suggested it was hard to feel pain. Can you drown? Can you go on a crime spree? Can you keep killing yourself and respawn like GTA?

I've never believed in a religious heaven. but have long thought an artificial one could be possible, created by humans or even aliens. I think this episode, although it was a bit overlong, will at least make people think when they die they might end up in a San Junipero type place, even if there is no God. I'll take the mid-80s simulation having sex with hot women that look like Purple Rain era Prince, at least for a while.

I don't think we know everything that is possible....but we saw the the the girl with glasses (forget her name) "will" herself a wedding dress at the end. We also saw the black girl "will" herself a house and jeep - so I assume you just pick a spot of real estate (or will yourself one) and viola....

That being said, spending an afterlife dancing seems really dull and boring.

I believe something was said about it being a trial run until you decide to "pass over" and go permanent. Perhaps the trial run is limited.

I have to think there are consequences in SJ. Perhaps they ramp up your pain setting if you act out too much.

Life! Don't talk to me about life.

Just about anything imaginable. I understand why they stayed in a realistic setting, (for the twist, emotion, etc.) but in theory you could be in any type of location on earth, anything in any MMORPG. You could fly, morph into any number of existent and nonexistent creatures, breath underwater, etc.

Besides the monotony of any indefinite existence, it seems to me the major flaw they introduced was less pleasure. Many things we do to slowly kill ourselves are very pleasurable, and you wouldn't be able to slowly kill yourself there, so these activities would be less pleasurable, or not at all. So cigarettes, fat (sorry bacon), sugar, liquor, most drugs, possibly even excessive sex. You also can't break anything permanently, especially glass, which can feel really pleasurable too. Can't physically hurt anyone else, but you could ban them from your "server", so no need.

Other than the pain and death, it also seems like it wouldn't be logically possible to procreate or raise a family, and with indefinite resources, no practical reason for most jobs. You would have access to all the information ever recorded, and the actual time to consume it. As with most extended life fantasies, most theorize an unprecedented flourishing of arts & sciences, i.e. what people do out of pure passion. We would have smarter, wiser beings than ever before in just 100 years or so. All things considered, there are few things I wouldn't do for the opportunity to live in San Junipero.

If something like that existed, the people who run the server farms would constantly be adding updates. New environments, new interfaces, better software, etc.

What would keep the people on the outside, running the servers etc from going in themselves? Everybody would want in and would do whatever it would take to get there.
